TL;DR for my fellow skimmers 💕
This is the simple & soothing nighttime skincare routine I come back to every season for my oily, acne-prone skin! It's 7 easy steps and is my tried and true go-to, especially on days where I can't be bothered with a 20-step routine (which is typically when I'm in a funk, if you're in one too, take my funk quiz to see what kind you're in, or read more about those here.):
Double cleanse: with La Roche-Posay Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil to get my skin all ready and clean.
Dampen + tone: ANUA Heartleaf 77+ Soothing Toner, tapped into my slightly damp skin.
Serum: ANUA PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Serum, four drops tapped and pressed into my skin.
Sandwich the toner: second layer of the ANUA 77+ Toner to lock in hydration between steps.
Eye serum: Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum, half a pea-size amount tapped under each eye.
Moisturize: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer on my face and neck.
Bonus 2-3x a week: Apres Beauty reusable eye patches over the eye serum to boost absorption.
Why I keep coming back to this routine...
If you want to see my full skincare system in one place, I created a hub post for all of my routines here. This post is specifically for my soothing nights, but the hub connects everything.
I have oily, blemish-prone skin and this is the routine I find myself coming back to most nights. It's easy, quick, works in every season, every product is one I consider to be a true staple in my routine, and it gives me glass skin every time. What's not to love?
But two to three nights a week I switch things up and bring in my actives like retinol and exfoliants. If you want to see what I do on those nights, that post is right here.
And if you're also a women in her 30s that wants to know more about why I think acne is showing up for a lot of us in this decade of life, I wrote an entire post about that and products I use and love for my treating my hyperpigmentation here! But for now, this is my exact soothing skincare routine:
Step 1: Double cleanse
My skincare routine starts in the shower, like I said, I love me a quick and easy routine. I double cleanse with the La Roche-Posay Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil because:
it's a gentle cleanser
it doesn't strip all moisture from my skin, but
it manages to still efficiently clean my oily-skin
Double cleansing makes sure everything is thoroughly removed before I start layering other products on my skin. If you wear sunscreen (and we all should, everyday, check out my post here about my two faves that don't leave a white cast) or makeup, I highly recommend double cleansing!
And if active breakouts are part of your skin situation too, I have a whole post on exactly how I use pimple patches to protect spots while they heal and reduce the hyperpigmentation they leave behind.
Step 2: Dampen your skin before toning (Most people skip this)
After I dry my face I use a small spray water bottle to lightly dampen my skin (face and neck) again before applying toner. This is not a step most people talk about but it makes a big difference in how well all the following products absorb.
This toner right here is such an underrated gem! My skin could be Sahara-desert-level dry, I'm talking dry flaky patches, and within a minute it will always get me right. And for my oily, acne-skin, it adds the perfect level of moisture without feeling heavy.
I gently rub this toner in my hands and tap it into my skin. Not rub, tap. I did it wrong for years and once I switched to tapping I noticed an immediate difference. You don't need to wait for it to fully dry before moving to the next step.
My skin instantly fell in love with this serum! I got it because of the glass skin (aka skin so glowy and clear you can see your reflection in it) claims and I can happily attest to the claims. My skin instantly glows when I apply this, especially on top of the ANUA Toner.
I get four drops in my hand, rub my hands together to warm it up, then I pat and press it into my skin. The motion is somewhere between a pat and a gentle press, not a rub.
Step 5: Second layer of the ANUA 77+ Toner
I do a smaller second application of the ANUA toner and then wait about 45 seconds before moving on. This sandwiching technique (toner - serum - toner) keeps the hydration locked in between layers and boosts the glass skin effect on me!
This eye cream has been awesome for me. I have hereditary dark circles so it can't help with that but it helps with the texture and overall look of my under-eye area. When I apply this product, I put half a pea-size amount to my ring finger, tap my fingers together, then gently tap my fingers under each eye.
I've been using this moisturizer for a few years now and my favorite thing about it is I can use it year round. It's not too heavy in the summer and it's the perfect consistency for the winter. Not to mention, it works really well with all my other products, which is super important.
When applying this, I gently rub it into my face and neck. As a quick note, everything goes on my neck. We can't afford to skip our necks anymore, girl! Speaking of can't afford, I log every product I use in my Glow Skincare Log so I can actually track what is working and what is not. If you're building out a routine like this one, it's worth having a cute & simple system for that!
The optional step that's made a difference...
A few times a week I put the Apres Beauty reusable eye patches on after my moisturizer to help my eye serum really absorb. I have only been doing this for a few weeks and have already noticed a huge difference in the softness of my under-eye area. I prefer reusable patches because they're cost effective and less flimsy than the one-use patches.

A note for extra dry nights
Like I said earlier, this is my skincare routine in even the cooler and drier seasons. And even though my skin is naturally oily, it will get dry at times. When my skin is feeling drier than usual, I just add an extra layer of the toner or serum rather than switching up my entire routine. We love cost-effective strategies over here!
